God also keeps a list, a whole book actually, called; The Book of Life. And unlike Santa’s forever changing list, the names on God’s list were there before it was ever written…
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart…” ( Jeremiah 1:5 )
God’s children are always on His list whether they behave or not. When we teach our children about the character of God they can take solace knowing they are always on His good list. God is love; and the Bible defines God’s love as a love that:
“… keeps no record of wrongs.” ( 1 Corinthians 13: 4-5 )
We are always forgiven by God. We do not have to convince God to forgive us! Jesus paid the price for us all when He died on the cross. All we have to do is open our hearts to receive Him, ask Him for forgiveness when we are “naughty” and thank Him for loving us no matter what! Why do we ask for forgiveness if we are already forgiven? We ask for His forgiveness because we want Him to know when we are sorry because we love Him!
Lesson: Helping our children understand that God always loves them is one of the most important lessons we can ever teach. Explain to your child that when they pray they can talk to God and ask for His forgiveness, it’s like making an “apology” of sorts. And at the end of their prayers, teach them to thank Him for His forgiveness and for always loving them, no matter what!
“I am writing to you who are God’s children because your sins have been forgiven through Jesus.”
